Providence Health & Services Chief Philanthropy Officer in Tarzana, California
Under the direction of the Regional Chief Philanthropy Officer for Los Angeles, the Executive Director/Chief Philanthropy Officer of Providence Tarzana (PTZ) serves in a senior fundraising and supervisory role for the Tarzana Foundation staff with a primary focus on generating significant financial support to help meet the stated goals and needs of the Medical Center. A secondary responsibility is to work in partnership with all Los Angeles ministries in the raising of funds for all Southern California Providence Foundations. Responsibilities include management of development officers and senior development officers and partnering with volunteers, medical center administrators, and physicians.
The Ministry Chief Philanthropy Officer will have the following accountabilities:
Demonstrates Providence core values of respect, dignity, compassion, and excellence to customers, employees, and visitors; and provides quality service in the performance of work assignments and duties.
Participates in the planning and implementation of an effective fund raising strategy that takes into account the unique mission of Providence and the special needs of donors and potential donors.
Carries a portfolio of approximately 100-125 major gift prospects/donors ($50,000 ).
Supervises, trains, and motivates assigned staff for major gifts and campaign development.
Staffs campaign committees as assigned.
Monitors portfolios of assigned fundraising staff to ensure effective productivity.
Staffs leadership of the Foundation Board of Governors
Staffs the ministry Chief Executive and his/her leadership team for philanthropic activities
Staffs committees as assigned.
Maintains professional growth and development.
Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, improving organization performance activities.
Attends meetings as required.
Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Minimum of 10 years demonstrably successful direct major gift fund-raising experience.
Good organizational skills with facility for managing many projects simultaneously
Ability to work independently within established guidelines and to meet frequent deadlines
Proven track record in cultivating and soliciting qualified prospects, closing major gifts and stewarding major donors
Ability to develop and master the relationships necessary to promote the trust and confidence of the organization’s leadership, including prospects and donors
Demonstrated success in campaign fund raising; knowledge of deferred/planned giving approaches and techniques
Demonstrated experience working within time-intensive, results-oriented environment; and demonstrated leadership and motivational skills to develop staff and volunteers
In-depth and up-to-date knowledge of fund raising practices and procedures.
Strong leadership, motivational, and communication skills with abilities to work with a broad spectrum of people, and to prioritize work so that close to 70% of time is spent in the field of fund raising
Special skills and experience in personal major gift cultivation and solicitation ($100,000 and above)
