In this position you will:
Promotes patient, physician and employee satisfaction by personal example, treating all contacts with respect.
Supports and participates in activities that foster customer service.
Communicates and follows the organizational chain of command for notification of patient care/service issues, when appropriPEOPLE: Maintains required applicable licensure, certification and education.

Attends and successfully completes general and department orientation, in-service programs and the annual key competencies and mandatory update requirements.
Participates actively in department staff meetings
Demonstrates mastery of verbal and written communications.
Performs nutritional assessments for inpatients according to hospital standards. Communicates with physician, nurses and other hospital staff as needed. Strives to improve nutritional status when possible and provide a nutritionally adequate diet.
Documents all relevant aspects of nutritional care for pediatric through geriatric patients in accordance with hospital standards.
Maintains department records, billing, patient profile cards and files as required.
Strives to maintain current with new research and current practice in the field of diabetes. Attends additional educational program, reads current literature and attends meetings in the field and related fields.
Assists in coordination of student clinical experience and orientation of new staff within their scope of practice.
Participates in flexing work schedules as requested by the Program Director.
Serves as an educational resource for the nursing and medical personnel.
Demonstrates knowledge of age specific care, including but not limited to, identifying the need for additional safety measures, physiological normal values/readings; and observation of skin integrity, behavior, motor skills and/or activities that place patients at risk as well as communicates effectively in a clear, concise, understandable manner. Applicable for the populations: Pediatric, Adult, and Geriatric.
Instructs patients and families on diet for home use, providing educational materials and references as appropriate for age, learning style and learning capability.
Confers and coordinates patient care plans with Diabetes Nurse Educator.
Provides assessment and education to patients on health care issues in additional to nutrition. These issues include: foot care, self-monitoring of blood glucose, insulin injection technique and insulin adjustment.
Performs nutrient analysis of intake, calorie count, protein count, etc. when ordered.
Communicates with dietary department regarding special needs of DCC patients, such as: diet patterns, nourishment and food likes/dislikes, etc.
Teaches group classes on diabetic diets and nutrition topics.
Teaches group classes on general diabetic topics, i.e., Healthy Living With Diabetes.Serves as a community resource for diabetic nutrition.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Registered Dietitian (R.D.), American Dietetic Association.
Current LA City Fire Card within 30 days of hire.
Certified Diabetes Educator, preferred.
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Teaching and counseling experience.
