Providence Director Patient Relations in Tarzana, California


We are seeking a Director Patient Relations - Under the general supervision of the Chief Philanthropy Officer of the Providence Tarzana Foundation, the Director of Patient Relations is responsible for the Hospitality Program, which is a concierge program designed to develop and sustain positive relations with donors and trustees and steward our highest-level donors at Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center. Acting in coordination with the Foundation, the Director serves as a patient advocate and a liaison between the patient and the medical center by supporting our donor needs in seeking medical care guidance, access, shared understanding of terms and process, access to allied hospital departments and physician offices. This does not impact speed, type or level of medical care provided, as all patients receive the same high quality medical care. The Director of Patient Relations must be accessible and willing to work on an on-call and variable schedule basis and must be available to come to the hospital or to donor home/business locations as needed during assigned day, evening, night, weekend or holidays.

In this position you will:

  • Act as a patient advocate and a liaison between the patient and the Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Health Center. Balances the needs of the patients with maintaining excellent working relationships with the Center’s staff and physicians. Communicates with clinical staff and physicians to ensure quality patient care and access is delivered to the patients who are donors, and the unit is maintained in accordance with professional and regulatory standards and the philosophy and standards of the Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center

  • Ability to be on call for work related inquiries and emergency hospitalizations. Meet donors as needed on and off site which can include care, guidance, access, interpretation of information, physical and emotional support. This could include alerts to charge nurse and unit director of donor presence and/or scheduled appointments, scheduling or coordinating appointments/access, contact with physician offices to obtain procedural orders prior to arrival, providing paperwork to donors prior to arrival for completion prior to appointment date, preregistration and like support

  • In collaboration with Foundation, develop programs of donor support both family and corporate, physician outreach and engagement, and best practices in supporting high level donors and donor stakeholders. Ongoing best practices include annual flu shots for donor families and corporate donors

  • Educate staff, board, and/or volunteer leaders on capabilities and operational methods for the care provided by Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center to the community we serve. Engage community members in discussions and conversation to develop and deepen professional relationships to support the volunteer outreach to their community stakeholders and fundraising skills

  • Track record, physician, environmental and/or other hospital staff actions/issues. Communicate clearly on pertinent visit information associated with donor stewardship and fundraising

  • Provide a positive representation of the Foundation, Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center to patients, their families, physicians, and other Health Center personnel.

  • Communicate regularly with Foundation management and staff in annual or planned giving to ensure information is current and that appropriate opportunities to further the department goals

  • Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for own professional practice in regards to:

  • Attendance, punctuality, confidentiality, and professionalism

  • Positive public relation image and working relationships

  • Obtaining necessary knowledge and skill needed to maintain competence

  • Completing all mandatory requirements

  • Strive to streamline processes and improve efficiency of the department

  • Participate in the development and attainment of team, department and hospital goals including:

  • Attending and participating in division meetings

  • Volunteering or accepting assignments for projects

  • Mission, vision, and values

Required qualifications for this position includes:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Health related field

  • 7 years of Fundraising and/or healthcare

  • 5 years of program management

  • Extraordinary interpersonal and persuasive skills. Ability to clearly communicate with internal and external customers, including, but not limited to, patients, donors, trustees, co-workers, management, physicians, and visitors

  • Able to defuse difficult situations and solve problems on the spot

  • Able to understand basic medical terminology, treatments, and procedures

  • Good computer skills for hospital information systems

  • Good understanding of medical illness and treatment plans according to diagnosis

  • Ability to prioritize work and independently evaluate resource requirements to accomplish the job

  • Proficient in required competencies upon completion of orientation, as listed on the unit specific Competency Inventory

  • Comfortable being around sick or injured people and their families in stressful situations

  • Understanding of working within a hospital

  • High level of confidentiality

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • CA Registered Nurse, Care Management Certification
