Providence is calling an Emergency Services Technician (Per-Diem/Night Shift) to Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center in Tarzana, CA.
We are seeking an Emergency Services Technician who will perform basic emergency medical/trauma procedures and patient care to patients and families of all ages as directed, in accordance with physician orders, hospital policy, scope and standards of practice. Demonstrate the ability to manage conflict and deal with disruptive patients and/or visitors.
Communicate and follow the organizational chain of command for notification of patient care/service issues, when appropriate.
Implement and maintain established department, unit, and hospital policies, procedures, and objectives as well as improving organization performance, safety, environmental, and infection control policies.
Maintain a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with hospital standards.
Independently maintain required applicable licensure, certification and education.
Work within EMT or EMT-P Scope of Practice and within the policies and standards of practice in the Emergency Department.
Establish and maintain professional and collaborative relationships with other staff members, physicians, patients, patient family members, and the public as appropriate, while assuring confidentiality of all patient information.
Attend and successfully complete general and department orientation, in-service programs and the annual key competencies and mandatory update requirements.
Participate actively in department staff meetings.
Demonstrate mastery of verbal and written communications.
Demonstrate knowledge of age specific care, including but not limited to, identifying the need for additional safety measures, physiological normal values/readings; and assessing skin integrity, behavior, motor skills and/or activities that place patients at risk as well as communicates effectively in a clear, concise, understandable manner. Applicable for the populations: Infant, Pediatric, Adult, Geriatric.
Implement and incorporate basic patient care activities across the continuum by effectively communicating with physicians, Registered Nurse, staff and other disciplines.
Assist the department with basic clerical duties such as answering telephones, directing visitors, processing paperwork, responding to patient call lights, order entry, patient charges.
Maintain knowledge of, and demonstrates the ability to identify patient care issues and assist with patient care activities.
Document care provided in the patient care record in accordance with policies and procedures.
Demonstrate critical thinking and the ability to provide care in emergency situations and follows established emergency procedures and practices.
Perform basic procedures under the direction of the registered nurse or physician for patients including: thermal applications, non-sterile soaks, splinting, application of simple dressings, perennial care, stool, and urine collection. Open sterile supplies and sets up for and assists with procedures. Assist with life saving interventions during the care of critical patients, i.e. cardiac compressions and post mortem care.
Perform initial and updated vital signs, pulse oximetry, application of cardiac monitoring, and provide registered nursing staff with pain assessment and reassessment on patients. Perform electrocardiograph examinations with portable equipment in patient rooms.
Clean and prepare rooms between procedures and after terminal cleaning and continually monitors, restocks room supplies. Keep stock and equipment inventories. Requisitions supply and equipment maintenance and repair services and prepares related forms. Stock supplies in procedural carts, medication rooms, equipment rooms and patient care rooms.
Assist with patient flow and rooming patients brought in to the department by ambulance and assists nursing personnel in a professional and safe manner.
Facilitate patient flow in the Emergency Department by bringing patients into the ED during the triage process and placing them in a patient room based on their chief complaint for physician assessment.
Assist nursing staff with transport of critical Emergency Department patients, transfer of Emergency Department Patients to inpatient units.
Ensure accurate maintenance of patients’ medical records and that patient records are treated as confidential information.
Participate in educational programs and in-service meetings.
Attend meetings as required.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers.
LA City Fire Card within 30 days of hire.
Management of Aggressive Behavior within 90 days of hire.
Current LA County EMT 1 certification, Current LA County EMT-P certification, or Basic EKG dysrhythmia course Completion within 30 days of hire (Unless EMT-P).
One (1) year of experience in acute care.
One (1) year of current Emergency Services experience (may be concurrent with acute care experience).
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
- H.S. Diploma or GED
