Providence Health & Services Executive Director, Cardiovascular and Neuroscience Service Lines in Tarzana, California
Provides leadership across the cardiovascular continuum from community screening through acute care and after-care maintenance. Plans and sets long-term objectives and directs activities to ensure volume growth, clinical and financial management, improving quality outcomes, and increased customer satisfaction for both physicians and patients.
Direct operational responsibility includes Cardiovascular and Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehab Services, Interventional and Non-Interventional Cardiology Services. Collaborates with Operations Directors/Managers of the ICU and in-patient units, as well as CV Registry, Community Outreach and Screening, Marketing and Surgery to ensure overall coordination of care and program/process improvement.
With Physician and hospital leadership, clearly define, manage, and monitor strategic plan and director for the program.
Direct development and implementation of a marketing strategy for the cardiac product lines in collaboration with clinical and administrative leadership and in conjunction with regional and market priorities.
Develop recruitment and retention strategies for cardiologists and cardiovascular surgeons.
Establish and facilitate referral relationships between primary care physicians, physician organizations, cardiologists and cardiovascular surgeons.
Develop and pursue mutually beneficial business opportunities with payers and employers.
Develop working relationship with third-party payers in collaboration with Medical Directors and Director Managed Care.
Implement new business ventures which are innovative, cost effective, revenue producing and market driven.
Prepare, manage, and monitor operational and capital budgets for cardiac and vascular product lines and analyze and prioritize budget expenditures in light of revenue impact on specified services.
Work with medical directors and/or key physicians to solicit physician support for cost containment. Continuously research cost-effective ways of decreasing inventory and improving vendor contracts.
Collaborate with educators, managers, and staff to evaluate equipment and supply purchases.
Analyze targeted existing cardiac services for cost/benefit and development strategies to improve their financial return.
Work with regional and medical center departments to develop systems for tracking and analyzing volume, revenue, financial results, customer service satisfaction (physician, patients/families), and outcomes for cardiac and vascular services.
Identify best practices and facilitate benchmarking of key success factors.
Utilize resources available to report and track utilization and outcomes management as compared with regional, state, and national data.
With clinical leadership, develop standards of patient care and standards of clinical practice based on systematic analysis and data collection. Implement, monitor, and document ongoing program to ensure quality patient care using appropriate hospital resources (i.e., medical directors, QI coordinator, risk management).
Develop criteria for identifying general areas of potential risk in the clinical aspects of patient care and safety. Implement changes necessary to improve perceived problems in services to reduce risk and optimize delivery of care.
Research methods to improve nursing practice and assess administrative practices that affect patient care on an ongoing basis.
Monitor compliance with federal, regulatory, and hospital policies for quality patient care/staff support services. Make recommendations for changes as appropriate.
Provide training to subordinates regarding new and revised policies and procedures to ensure quality hospital service.
Maintain sufficient staffing and monitors ongoing qualifications and competence of department personnel.
Manage material supplies and environment to ensure compliance with safety, licensing, and regulatory agencies.
Establish a mechanism for receiving and responding to patient/family complaints concerning patient care, analyze concerns, and take appropriate action.
Represent the cardiac and vascular clinical services at department, hospital, and community events.
Maintain professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
Required experience/education for this position include:
Bachelor's Degree in Business, Health Care Administration, Nursing or related field
RN preferred, must be supervised by RN in absence of RN license
5 years of experience in a responsible position demonstrating leadership, strategic planning, entrepreneurship, marketing and health care skills
Proven experience in program development
Knowledge of market research, the marketing process, budgeting
Excellent communication skills
Ability to manage change, promote positive interpersonal relations, and an understanding of physician bonding techniques and programs
Excellent skills in planning, organization, marketing and program management
Expertise in the management of clinical staff and facilities and excellent interpersonal and organizational skills in dealing with physicians, hospital and system administration, peers and staff.
