Providence Health & Services Instrument Technician in Tarzana, California

Description:

Providence is calling a Instrument Technician (Per Diem, Variable Shift) at Providence Tarzana Medical Center in Tarzana, CA.

We are seeking a Instrument Technician who will receive and process incoming supplies, instrumentation and equipment, performs cleaning and sterilizing duties, prepares packs of supplies, linens, and instruments in SPD as directed.

In this position you will:

  • Promote patient, physician and employee satisfaction by personal example, treating all contacts with respect Support and participate in activities that foster customer service

  • Communicate and follow the organizational chain of command for notification of patient care/service issues, when appropriate

  • Maintain required applicable licensure, certification and education

  • Attend and successfully completes general and department orientation, in-service programs and the annual key competencies and mandatory update requirements

  • Participate actively in department staff meetings.

  • Demonstrate mastery of verbal and written communications

  • Demonstrate knowledge and performs work that is consistent with established age-specific policies and procedures, including but not limited to, selection of appropriate sizes, flow rates, etc., when issuing supplies, or completing surgical procedure trays. Communicates pertinent age-specific information to all clients when needed. Communicates effectively in a clear, concise, understandable manner. Applicable for the populations: Infant, Pediatric, Adult, Geriatric

  • Clean, assemble, wrap, sterilizes and stores supplies and instrument trays

  • Sterilize instrument, equipment and supplies as required; handle and store instruments, equipment and supplies appropriately

  • Demonstrate knowledge of different types of sterilization materials and equipment to chose the appropriate method of sterilization for particular equipment or supplies, according to OEM guidelines

  • Knowledge and operation of sterile processing equipment (washers, steam, gas, ultrasonic and chemical sterilizers).

  • Knowledge of reusable surgical instrumentation, micro surgical instrumentation, and power equipment

  • Decontaminate instruments, supplies and equipment according to established policies and procedures

  • Perform biological and chemical monitoring in accordance with quality assurance standards. Document and maintain accurate sterilization records

  • Identify instruments needing repair or replacement and transmits information to appropriate person

  • Inspect, assemble and test general and specialty instrumentation for proper functioning

  • Lubricate surgical instruments as needed

  • Constantly monitor sterilizing cycles which include temperature, sterilizing time, pressure, and dry time

  • Distribute supplies and equipment to units in a timely manner.

  • Maintain an adequate supply of packs and supplies to meet area needs including inventory control, proper labeling, and inspection of linen and labeling of packages

  • Maintain the cleanliness of the work areas as required

  • Prepare trays for designated areas according to policies and procedures

  • Inspect sterilized instruments which include: package integrity, name of instrument/tray, sterilization date, load number, tech. initial and event related sterility sticker

  • Collect soiled equipment/instruments from different nursing unitsDemonstrate willingness & ability to float to areas within their scope of practice as necessary

Qualifications:

Required qualifications:

  • Graduate from Instrument Tech or Surgery Tech training program

  • Current LA City Fire Card within 30 days of hire

  • One (1) year Instrument Tech or Surgery Tech experience within an acute care facility

  • Sterilizes instruments, equipment and supplies as required; handles and stores instruments, equipment and supplies appropriately

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • RCST or CRCST from professional organization/association (IACSHMM, et al.)
