Providence Health & Services Major Gifts Officer in Tarzana, California


Providence is calling a Full Time, Day Shift Major Gifts Officer to Providence Tarzana Medical Center in Tarzana, CA.

In this position you will:

  • Under the direction of the Chief Philanthropic Gifts Advisor, the Major Gifts Officer will personally build a portfolio of prospects with capacity of giving $100,000 and up to $1 million

  • Prospect will primarily be identified through a newly launched Grateful Patient Program designed to engage patients with the capacity to give back in support of Providence’s core mission to serve others and to ease their way in the world

  • Develop and maintain partnerships with doctors, nurses and care givers, and must be comfortable visiting with patients and supportive families in the hospital and clinics. This person must be adept at utilizing fundraising and research databases and systems including EPIC. Minimal travel outside service area

  • Be responsible for maintaining all required records within the organization’s donor data-base

  • Have other duties as required which may include event support, proposal writing and some administrative duties as they relate to the job


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree; an advanced degree is advantageous

  • A successful fundraising track record with a minimum of 5-7 years of Development fundraising including high-level donor solicitations

  • A thorough and demonstrated knowledge of the prospect identification, cultivation and solicitation process with an emphasis on individual gifts at a level of $25,000 and more

  • Knowledge of deferred/planned giving approaches and techniques

  • Demonstrated experience working within time-intensive, results-oriented environment and proposal development for a large institution, preferably a hospital, academic or nonprofit research organization

  • Must also possess leadership capabilities to develop staff and volunteers, possess outstanding analytical and evaluative skills, and exhibit excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and administrative skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing

  • Ability to coordinate care

  • Ability to develop and support effective relationshipsExcellent computer skills including understanding and use of Outlook E-Mail and Microsoft Office

  • Experience working with volunteers and donors and ease in providing assistance to high net worth individuals

  • Understanding of and hands-on experience working in a hospital

  • Comfortable being around sick or injured people, and individuals and their family members who are undergoing a stressful situation

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. We are looking for a “people person” who enjoys meeting and talking to people of all ages and backgrounds

  • Team player mentality

  • willing to work within established hospital and unit/department systems, policies and procedures

  • High level of confidentiality

  • Organized, efficient and flexible

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • An advanced degree is advantageous

  • Previous campaign experience

  • Certified as a Fund Raising Executive (CFRE)
