Providence Health & Services Operating Room Aide in Tarzana, California
Providence is calling a Operating Room Aide (Per diem/Variable shift) to Providence Tarzana Medical Center in Tarzana, CA.
We are seeking a Operating Room Aide reporting to the Nurse Manager, this position will be responsible for assisting the operating room staff members in providing pre- and post-operative care to patients. Specific areas of responsibility include: patient transportation, patient transfer within the operating rooms, holding retractors as assigned, shave preps, and assisting with clerical functions.
In this position you will:
Promote patient, physician and employee satisfaction by personal example, treating all contacts with respect
Support and participate in activities that foster customer service
Communicate and follow the organizational chain of command for notification of patient care/service issues, when appropriate
Maintain required applicable licensure, certification and education
Attend and successfully complete general and department orientation, in-service programs and the annual key competencies and mandatory update requirements
Participate actively in department staff meetings
Demonstrate mastery of verbal and written communications
Demonstrate knowledge of age specific care, including but not limited to, identifying the need for additional safety measures, physiological normal values/readings; and observing skin integrity, behavior, motor skills and/or activities that place patients at risk as well as communicate effectively in a clear, concise, understandable manner. Applicable for the populations: Infant, Pediatric, Adult, and Geriatric
Work with the RN to prepare and maintain environment that is clean, safe, and adequately stocked with sterile and non-sterile supplies
Transport patients from OPSC or nursing units to surgery according to scheduled times or as directed by Registered Nurse
Assist in the moving of the patient between the gurney and operating table
Assist with patient positioning as directed by the Registered Nurse or physician
Assist with room turnover between procedures
Scrub in as directed for specific cases to hold retractors
Determine need for patient bed and deliver same based on type of procedure, “in or out” patient status and ICU status
Understand and utilize computer to find patient location
Transport all specimens to the lab, and assures proper identification and disposition. Transport blood and blood products to and from the lab as requested
Perform clerical duties as directed by the Registered Nurse
Maintain assigned duties on a rotational basis or as scheduled
Perform pre-operative surgical shaves as directed
Take call as scheduled
Demonstrate willingness & ability to float to areas within their scope of practice as necessary
Required qualifications for this position include:
Current LA City Fire Card within 30 days of hire
1 year expereince in an acute care setting
1 year experience that provided general knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology and operative procedures
Demonstrated written communication skills
Strong verbal communication and listening skills
Knowledge of medical terminology
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
CNA, Instrument tech, Surgery tech or equivalent educ/experience
1 year operating room experience or evidence of on-the-job training program
1 year experience as nurse aide or transporter
1 year experience with Operating Room instrumentation and equipment
